Venezuela · 2020

The 1 million bolívares note was issued by the Banco Central de Venezuela in 2020, as hyperinflation continued to erode the bolívar soberano. The front carries a portrait of Simón Bolívar beside a row of stars and the coat of arms. The back shows the triumphal arch at Carabobo and a cavalry charge, marked '200 años Batalla de Carabobo' for the bicentenary of the 1821 battle that secured Venezuelan independence.
What it boughtIn late 2020 a million bolívares soberanos bought about one US dollar, while a whole month's minimum wage was just 1.2 million.
