A 500,000-lira note issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey in 1997, under the legal clause of Law No. 1211 of 14 January 1970. The front shows Mustafa Kemal Atatürk against a geometric pattern. The back shows the Çanakkale Martyrs' Memorial, named on the note, on the Gallipoli peninsula overlooking the sea. The memorial honours the Turkish soldiers who died in the Gallipoli campaign of 1915, in which Atatürk made his name as a commander.
