A 100-gulden note from the Centrale Bank van Suriname, dated 9 January 1988. The front shows a portrait of the writer and activist Anton de Kom, a row of historic wooden buildings from Paramaribo, and a group of people raising a flag. The back shows a toucan among tropical flowers beside a rising sun, and a crowd gathered around a speaker. The series honoured de Kom, a campaigner against colonial rule in the 1930s.
