A 1000-won note issued by the Bank of Korea in 1983. The front shows the Confucian scholar Yi Hwang (Toegye), with a traditional bronze vessel holding arrows and a pattern of clouds and flowers. The back shows Dosan Seowon, the Confucian academy in Andong associated with him, set among trees. Yi Hwang was one of the leading neo-Confucian thinkers of the Joseon dynasty in the 16th century.
