A 50 escudos note from the Banco de Portugal, dated Lisbon, 28 May 1968, and issued for many years afterwards. The front shows the Infanta Dona Maria, a sixteenth-century Portuguese princess named on the note, wearing pearls and a jewelled headdress, beside the national arms. The back shows a view of Sintra as it appeared in 1507, with the towers and conical chimneys of the royal palace above the town.
