Back

A wartime Bank of Japan note from 1944. The front shows the tall stone Hakko Ichiu tower, a nationalist monument in Miyazaki, beneath the imperial chrysanthemum crest, with red seals of the bank. The back carries the value on a wave-patterned background. Low-value notes like this were printed during the Second World War when metal for coins was scarce.
