500 lire
Italy · 1974, 1979
A state note of the Italian Republic issued from 1974, showing the head of the god Mercury wearing his winged cap. The back shows a mythological figure riding a winged creature beside a column of stars, with two large circular panels and the word CINQUECENTO along the base. The 500 lire note was withdrawn after a bimetallic 500 lire coin entered circulation in 1982.
