Issued by the Banca d'Italia under a 1990 decree, this note shows the radio pioneer Guglielmo Marconi, named on the note, alongside the bank's winged lion seal. The back shows a steam yacht, tall radio masts and an early wireless transmitting apparatus, recalling his experiments in long-distance radio. It was one of the last 2000 lire designs before the euro replaced the lira in 2002.
