Issued by the Banca d'Italia from 1973, this note shows the astronomer Galileo Galilei beside Pisa Cathedral and its Leaning Tower, with the winged lion seal of the bank. The back shows celestial charts of the constellations and zodiac, with observatory domes and a telescope in a hilly landscape of cypress trees. The lira remained Italy's currency until the euro replaced it in 2002.
