Issued by the Chartered Bank in Hong Kong and dated 1 January 1981. The front shows a carp leaping from stylised waves, a traditional Chinese symbol of perseverance and good fortune. The back shows the bank's Hong Kong office building and the British royal coat of arms with the motto Dieu et mon droit. Three commercial banks issue Hong Kong's notes, and the Chartered Bank became Standard Chartered Bank in 1985.
