A First World War Darlehnskassenschein (loan bank note) issued by the Reichsschuldenverwaltung in Berlin and dated 1 August 1917. The front shows a portrait of a young woman wearing a flowered wreath beside the imperial eagle, and the green back carries a large 5 with Reichsschuldenverwaltung seals; such notes were issued to ease coin and currency shortages during the war.
