Germany · 1910

Issued by the Reichsbank in Berlin and dated 21 April 1910, a variety with green seals. The front carries the value in elaborate Gothic lettering, with seals bearing the imperial eagle. The back shows two standing female figures, one holding an oar and the other a cornucopia, flanking the crowned imperial eagle and coat of arms. These notes were printed in very large numbers and stayed in circulation well into the inflation years after the First World War.
What it boughtOn the date printed on it, 21 April 1910, an inland letter in Germany cost 10 pfennig to post, so this note would have paid for 10,000 letters.
