Back

Issued by the Reichsbank in Berlin and dated 7 February 1908, a variety with green seals. The front shows two allegorical female figures holding up an ornate frame containing a woman's head, with a helmet and weapons on one side and sheaves and fruit on the other. The back carries the value in elaborate Gothic lettering over a large imperial eagle. Notes of this type were issued in the German Empire before the First World War.

What it boughtIn 1908 an inland letter in Germany cost 10 pfennig to post, so this note would have paid for 1,000 letters.
