Chambers of Commerce of Provence · France · 1918–22
An emergency (nécessité) note issued jointly by the Chambers of Commerce of Avignon, Marseille and Nîmes to relieve the post-war shortage of small change. The front shows olive branches, vine leaves and grapes, and the back shows a map of Provence and the Mediterranean coast with a notice that the notes had to be redeemed before 31 December 1929. Such notes are catalogued in French specialist references such as Pirot rather than in the Standard Catalog.
