Chamber of Commerce of Évreux · France · 1921

A French chamber of commerce emergency note (billet de nécessité) issued by the Chambre de Commerce d'Évreux for the arrondissements of Évreux, Les Andelys, Bernay and Louviers. It was authorised by the deliberation of 17 November 1921 and shows the civic arms of those towns within a border of apple boughs. The back explains that the notes were exchangeable for Banque de France notes and redeemable until 17 November 1926. Such local issues covered the shortage of small change after the First World War and are catalogued by Pirot rather than given a standard Pick number.
