Back

Issued by the Banque de France, from a series first printed in 1964, showing the playwright Pierre Corneille. The front shows Corneille in a red cloak before a grand classical colonnade, with flowers and theatrical props. The back shows a second portrait of him in a decorative frame above a view of his home city of Rouen, with its cathedral and river. The franc was replaced by the euro in 2002.
