Issued by the Banco Central del Ecuador and printed by the American Bank Note Company, this note shows a portrait of independence hero Antonio José de Sucre, after whom the currency was named, with the national coat of arms on the reverse. This long-running design was issued with many dates until the sucre's value collapsed and Ecuador adopted the US dollar in 2000.
