5 nouveaux makuta
Democratic Republic of the Congo · DR Congo · 1993
Issued by the Banque du Zaïre and dated 24 June 1993, from the nouveau zaïre series. The front shows President Mobutu Sese Seko in military cap beside a leaping leopard. The back shows a monument with a tall column and statues of standing figures, with relief scenes of people at its base, next to the national arms. The new zaïre replaced the old at a rate of three million to one, but soon lost value in turn.
