1000 zaïres
Democratic Republic of the Congo · DR Congo · 1989
Issued by the Banque du Zaïre in the 1980s. The front shows President Mobutu Sese Seko in military cap, with a leaping leopard, the national arms and bold geometric patterns. The back shows a long modern building with a columned facade, alongside a fountain and more geometric decoration. By the end of the decade high inflation had pushed the country to issue far larger denominations.
