A 5 yuan note of the Bank of China, dated 1937 and printed by Thomas De La Rue in London, issued around 1940. The Chinese side shows a portrait of Sun Yat-sen beside a multicoloured central panel with the value. The English side shows a tall modern office building with neighbouring blocks, the bank's Shanghai headquarters on the Bund. The Bank of China was one of the four government banks issuing the national currency.
