Issued by the Banco Central do Brasil in the early 1980s, in a series with mirrored double portraits. One side shows Marshal Deodoro da Fonseca twice, one image inverted against the other. The other side shows a group of men in formal dress in a panelled chamber, also repeated upside down. Deodoro led the coup that ended the monarchy in November 1889 and became Brazil's first president.
