Issued by the National Treasury of the United States of Brazil in the early 1960s and printed by the Casa da Moeda do Brasil, the national mint. The front shows the head of a young Indigenous man in profile, with a fisherman poling a sailing raft (jangada) on the left and the value at the centre. The back shows giant Amazon water lilies with a flower in bloom. The cruzeiro had replaced the réis in 1942.
