Issued by the National Treasury of the United States of Brazil in the 1950s and printed by the American Bank Note Company. The front shows Luís Alves de Lima e Silva, Duke of Caxias, in decorated military uniform, between ornate panels of the value. The orange back shows the Military Academy at Resende (Escola Militar de Rezende), a large complex of buildings seen from above. Caxias is regarded as the patron of the Brazilian army.
