Issued by the Banco Central do Brasil in the early 1980s, in a series with a mirrored double portrait. One side shows the diplomat José Maria da Silva Paranhos Júnior, Baron of Rio Branco, twice, one image inverted against the other. The other side shows an old surveying instrument laid over a contour map. Rio Branco negotiated the settlement of several of Brazil's borders around 1900.
