A 10,000 cruzados note of the Banco Central do Brasil, overprinted with a triangular stamp reading 10 cruzados novos when the cruzado novo replaced the cruzado at 1,000 to 1 in January 1989. The front shows the physician and scientist Carlos Chagas, with a drawing of an insect above the overprint. The back shows him at a microscope in a laboratory. Chagas identified the disease that bears his name in 1909.
