Issued by the Banco Central do Brasil in the 1970s, after the cruzeiro was restored in 1970 in place of the short-lived cruzeiro novo. The front shows the effigy of the Republic, a classical female head with a star in her hair, in a round medallion. The back shows a large colonnaded building, also in a medallion, and both sides carry a vertical band of fine lines with the value. Inflation later made notes of this size worthless.
