Issued by the National Treasury of the United States of Brazil in the 1950s and printed by the American Bank Note Company. The front shows a portrait of Admiral Joaquim Marques Lisboa, Marquis of Tamandaré, a nineteenth-century naval commander regarded as the patron of the Brazilian navy. The back shows the Naval School (Escola Naval) on its island in Rio de Janeiro. The cruzeiro had replaced the réis in 1942.
