Market Town of Mauthausen · Austria · 1920
Austrian emergency money (Notgeld) voucher issued by the market town of Mauthausen in Upper Austria, with ornate Gothic lettering and signatures on the front and a historic engraved view of the Danube town dated 1649 on the back. Such small-change vouchers were issued by Austrian municipalities around 1920 amid post-war coin shortages and were widely collected even at the time.
