Austrian emergency money (Notgeld) issued by the market town of Gresten in Lower Austria. One side shows a church tower in a wooded landscape with the guarantee text and signatures, and the other bears the town's coat of arms with the inscription 'valid until 31 December 1920'. Such small-change notes were issued widely during the coin shortages that followed the First World War.
