Issued by the Oesterreichische Nationalbank, this note shows the chemist and inventor Carl Auer von Welsbach (1858–1929), known for the gas mantle and the osmium lamp filament, beside the Austrian eagle. The reverse depicts the pilgrimage church of Maria Saal in Carinthia, and the note circulated until the schilling notes were replaced in later decades.
